  • Stairs Required: Due to the preservation of the historic architecture, the “Wawel Town” exhibition and the viewing platform are not wheelchair accessible and require climbing 100 steps.

  • Entry: Access is via a ramp leading from the castle’s arcaded courtyard. Our staff will gladly set up the necessary ramps at the entrance upon your arrival.
  • Navigation: Once inside Level 0, all exhibition rooms are step-free and fully accessible.
  • Basement Level: The lower portion of the Armoury is located in the historic castle cellars. Due to the architectural preservation of the building, there is no elevator, and this section is not accessible to visitors with limited mobility.

The Underground Route

This geological wonder is a picturesque karst cave system carved into the limestone of Wawel Hill.

  • The Path: While the cave spans a total of 270 meters of winding corridors, visitors travel along a specially lit 81-meter route deep underground.
  • The Exit: Your subterranean journey ends as you emerge directly onto the Vistula Boulevards. You’ll step out right at the feet of the famous “fire-breathing” Wawel Dragon statue, a beloved bronze landmark sculpted by Bronisław Chromy in 1972.

Important Visitor Information

Because of the cave’s natural, historic structure, please keep these rules and physical requirements in mind:

  • Accessibility & Mobility: The cave is not wheelchair accessible.
  • Physical Requirements: Entry requires descending 135 steep, spiral steps into the cavern.
  • Strollers: Strollers are not permitted inside the den.

One-Way Traffic Notice: The tour flows in one direction only. Once you enter, you must complete the entire route and exit directly onto the riverfront boulevards.
